STATE PENNANT FINALS

November 6th and 7th, 2021 saw teams from across the state descend on Mermaid Beach Bowls Club to take up the challenge of becoming State Champion for 2021.

The teams were placed into two sections with each team playing 3 games , the winner of each section playing off against each other ,thus producing the champion for 2021.

Broadbeach were the GCTDLBA representatives. Their teams consisted of

Team 1 Cheryl Heaps, Serena Bonnell, Karen Goldsworthy, Bolivia Millerick

Team 2 Adele Pershouse, Rachel Davies, Heather Hodgson, Kelsey Cottrell

Team 3 Val Jackson, Gail Waitai, Anne McClure, Serena Mathews.

The first challenge the girls faced was from Marlin Coast. The skies were overcast with a slight breeze ,the greens were well prepared. Broadbeach took an early lead and didn’t faultier and won the match 100 to 32. The second match was against North Mackay . Skips were giving instructions, players were drawing as close as possible to the kitty, umpires were called to determine the winning shot. The green was running well, the sun was shining and Broadbeach once again came away with a convincing win 73 to 49. Game 3 saw Kawana as the challengers. This game was played on the morning the 7th November. Kawana took command right from the start of the game .They appeared to have the bowl on a string .They held the lead for over half of the game . The skies got darker, the wind increased , Broadbeach dug deep and slowly clawed their way back and by the 44th end they had taken the lead 43 to 37. They fiercely protected this lead and went on to secure the win 63 to 46.

The final was played in the afternoon. Bargara won their section ,so Broadbeach had only to beat Bargara to be crowned the 2021 State Champions . Broadbeach took the bull by the horns and by the 28 th end were 47 to 17 . They continued to build, playing some great shots, and took the win 89 to 34. Broadbeach claimed the crown and named 2021 State Pennant Champions .
