State District Fours.

May,4th to 7th May, 2022.

The GCTDLBA fielded two teams this year. Both teams made it through to the finals of Division 1, which shows the depth of talent we have in our district.

To distinguish the team ,they were given names of the District colours, Gold and Blue.

Saturday,7th May saw the finals arrive and our teams found themselves both in Division 1, with the Blue team coming in first and the Gold team placed fourth. The other teams to join our teams were Brisbane and Cunningham

Broadbeach Bowls hosted the Division 1 finals , and as expected the greens were in excellent condition, there was a soft cloud cover making it very comfortable for the girls to play.

This meant the two teams were playing against each straight up.

The Gold team won the toss and play was underway. What a game we witnessed. Skips giving directions and players producing the bowl that was asked for. Commitment from all the players. Long ends to be followed by short ones , keeping everyone on their toes , never allowing the pressure to ease. As we all know there has to be a winner and the Blue team came away with the win 54-34 with 48 ends being played.

This brought on the next game. Blue team were up against Cunningham and Gold team played Brisbane .

Cunningham took it to the Blue team, challenging every end .Great bowls from both sides were played, when the bell rang the Blue team came away victorious 49 – 38 after 47 ends. The Gold team next challenge was Brisbane. The girls played some excellent bowls but this time Brisbane came away with the win. Brisbane 52 , Gold team 43.

The third and final game for the whole competition Blue team challenged Brisbane and Cunningham played Gold team .

The Blue team only had to win their game and they would be outright winners. If Brisbane won the match , the numbers would come into play. So with cool heads and bowls that sat where the skips asked, players supporting each other , each rink had GCTDLBA Blue team ahead on the scoreboard The Blue team defeated Brisbane 55 to 34.

The Gold team played their heart out , but Cunningham narrowly came away with the win by 2 shots.

GCTDLBA Blue team won every match over the 4 days . That is a super achievement and the team should be so proud of themselves. Both our teams represented the district with excellent bowling, always supporting each other , still finding the time to have a laugh, a bit of fun, most importantly played with true sportsmanship. Well done , you have done the District proud.
