Helensvale versed Broadbeach with Broadbeach coming out as winners

McKenzie Park took on Mermaid Beach with McKenzie Park winning

Beenleigh took the challenge to Tweed Heads with Tweed coming away with the win .

That brought a close to the day . We witnessed some great games with lots of sportsmanship . We also knew the four teams who would be competing in the semi-finals the following Sunday . Southport , McKenzie Park, Tweed Heads and Broadbeach. Bring on the 17th .

Sunday 17th July ,2022 was a perfect day for bowls. Soft breeze, blue sky with a few clouds and a pleasant temperature.

Southport drew Broadbeach and McKenzie Park fronted Tweed Heads.

after a welcome to the teams and conditions of play were read the games got underway . Broadbeach proved too strong for Southport as did Tweed Heads against McKenzie Park . What an afternoon lay ahead. Tweed Heads against Broadbeach. Two very strong clubs. The Tweed Heads team were Claire Turley and Carol Fair. Broadbeach’s team were Gail Waitai and Heather Hodgson.

The spectators witnessed a superb final. Neither team allowing the other to pull ahead. Many an end we saw the score tied. Skips asking their leads to position a bowl in a certain place and time and time again the leads responded to the call and you saw the bowl sit just where the skip wanted it. It one team pulled away by two shots , you saw the other side lift and and once again the score was even . As we know there can only be one winner and on the last end Tweed Heads were up by one shot and they managed to hold onto the lead and won the game 17 to 15. It was just how a final should be . The bowls did the talking and everyone played such skill. A pleasure to watch .

Congratulation Claire Turley and Carol Fair. Well played you are worthy winners.
